End of Bible Study

Normally we go through the summer and we'd like to continue that but, 2 are expecting this summer and one is moving away. It was a lovely study by Kimberly Hahn (and we watched the companion video) called Chosen and Cherished.
One of the last questions we got to was about taming the hormonal beast that runs rampant through our homes. I said I'd tell them about the year I had it under control It was about 10 years ago.
This is a Fairytale!
Once upon a time, after a frightful 10th year of marriage, The queen decided that good health and a sane, happy couple ruling the kingdom would be best. It took her a year to have the full plan of attack on the Beast ready and implemented.
First there were the vitamins-- not only she but both little princes and both little princesses.
Second were the meals-- she bought very little sugar, fully used every vegetable from her CSA farm share, fully used her Freezer.
Third was sleep. The youngest princess could finally sleep through the night so she took great advantage of that and warned the King: The enemy sneaks in by night. You must help guard my sleep.
Most of all she turned to the great High King! Praying at a couples group that used music as a weapon, she found she could face the daily attacks. Teaching faith daily to the royal children, who were really children of the great High King, renewed her own faith. Every month she went to his ambassador to discuss her failings and receive grace to continue.
At the end of each week the happy couple would celebrate with a quiet dinner alone watching their children play as if there was never a problem in the world.
It was a very joyous kingdom.

Now I have to let Bible study work, let myself be loved by the great High King, get up off my but and try it all again. Because the Beast is worse now and needs to be tamed.

beer and politics

I had only heard about the Miller Beer issues, but for DH I thought I'd link. We need to be thoughtful --as in maybe its time to brew our own again?
How soon is the Ct Valley Brew Fest?

Remember: "Beer is proof that God exist and He loves us." Ben Franklin

Ever wonder why there are so many Csects?

I never thought I laugh about this

Back again

Well I’m a little less melancholy now even though, yes, my friend Margie passed away today. Margie lost an unimaginable 6 children before carrying to term (while her twin struggled with infertility.) It was her house/preschool I ran to when I found out I was losing my first. My mom worked there and I knew I’d have 2 strong, prayerful shoulders to cry on.Then I only knew the shell of her story. When I made my Cursillo she was on team and shared the whole thing. I saw Jesus right behind her the whole time she talked and that is how she lived her life. Like her friend Jesus had his arm around her enjoying every joke and holding her up. She, by then had a lovely family who willingly shared her when she was on team–which was often. Today she’s holding those babies herself! And what did she teach me in Cursillo? There is plenty of community in the Catholic church. It happens when we let Christ in us reach out to others.Last weekend there were 26 Cursillos going on with tens of thousands sacrificing and praying for all those on Cursillo— and all those being called to one. They are internationally known. For community, it is the best.

Little things.

A new baby. Congratulations Nori and Joe.
The girls' winning video is on Gloria TV.
Mass for my brother yesterday was nice. The closing for the Cursillo was also wonderful. I knew 4 candidates and they had a very powerful weekend. A woman from my weekend (back in 92) is engaged and I'm very happy for her.
I still was in a funk though. Another dear woman is passing away. Prayers for Margie and her family would be appreciated. It left me sad because I don't have my Cursillo group anymore because of crazy lives and then one dear friend passing. We also gave up our couples prayer group because of the kids needs. I love my Bible Study but miss my sister who helped start it and 1 member moves away soon.
I need to concentrated on the Blessings not the losses.

Corpus Christi

We celebrate on the Sunday after in our Diocese. As I listened to the reading from the Old Testament about God bringing the people through the desert for 40 years it all seemed to appropriate to my stage of life: The Lord telling me I had to go through the things I did in order for Him to bring me to the Promised Land. I'm looking forward not back, seeing the possibilities. At least on this sunny day.

Yep We've been busy.

I've been quilting like crazy in part because Mum has decorated her bedroom around the quilt I haven't finished. But also to procrastinate cleaning the desk. Its a disaster. So tomorrow I need to be at the desk except for Bible Study, and Lissa's show, and scouts.

Must read article

Go to Inside Catholic for all the how to's for running into a large family in public or dealing with people who are a bit overwhelmed when they see you out with your large family.

I laughed when people thought I had a large family with 4! I was so poorly treated in fact my husband did most every errand for me next pregnancy. I've had people back away like its contagious (only if you really love babies and are blessed with fertility), swear (never necessary) and yes ask if I know how that happens. I really wonder if all those people with 2.5 kids have only been intimate 2.5 times.

Now I have big kids so if I really need to go out by myself I can. But I still take everyone sometimes. Its a right of passage they all must experience. And to the dear nun, who was petrified about her nearing surgery at the dentist: I understand and yes I'm glad too God called you to your vocation.

Happy Birthday Sis!

This goes around so often I don't think anyone knows when Sister's day of Girlfriend's Day really are. You've seen this:

To All My SISTERS! (Girlfriends)
Thank God for YOU!

Life is too short to wake up with regrets. So love the people who treat you right. Love the ones who don't just because you can. Believe everything happens for a reason. If you get a second chance, grab it with both hands. If it changes your life, let it. Kiss slowly. Forgive quickly. God never said life would be easy. He just promised it would be worth it.
Today is sister's day, send this to all your sisters even me if I am like one.
If you get back 7, you are loved.
Happy Sister's Day!
Girlfriend and Sister's Week
I am only as strong as the coffee I drink, the hairspray I use and the friends I have
To the cool women that have touched my life. Here's to you!
National Girlfriends Day
What would most of us do without our sisters, confidants and shopping, lunching, and traveling girls? Let's celebrate each other for each other's sake!
If you get this twice you know you have more than one girlfriend. Be Happy!
It is good to be a woman:

I do like this one because it ususally comes with some really funny pics-- none of which saved on this draft--- and its tends to lift my mood.

Wonderful Weekend!

There is just nothing like Lord's Day! We had such a good time. Too much food, five conversations going at once, and the Sox won. I had friends old and new and not too many extra kids ;)
Then we stayed up wayyyyyy to late and watched I Am Legend On Demand. It was so good. I'll watch anything with Will Smith the way I used to watch everything with Sean Connery. Other than them I'm rarely in a rush to see a movie. I waited on this one because I'm not such a 'monster movie' person.
Adverture yes, gross no, heroic battle yes, gore-for-the-sake-of-gore no.
But this movie had a beautiful story in the family memory scenes, great hope and heroism. The character was so incredibly human in his struggle to maintain a normal life and his sanity while trying to save the world.

Anyway yes, Mother's Day was nice also. I showed my mother the progress on her quilt the night before. Jeff called his Mom---Hope he told you we want to bring you something to the Cape. I'd hate to make you pack or leave behind something new just a week later.

We sang my favorite piece, Magnificat by Stearns after the recessional at Mass. 80 years ago when our newer church was dedicated, on Pentecost Sunday, they sang the entire Strearn's Vespers. We tried most of it as prelude before Mass and didn't do too badly. I hadn't sung it since High School and back then a solist did part so I didn't know all of it.

We spent an hour and a half at the little lake on the mountain. Daddy helped them fish. It was really easy.
I hope you all had a lovely day and spoiled your Mom; Hope you spent time with Our Mother in heaven; Hope the Spirit was revived in you!

Day 9 of Novena Saturday May 10

Click on title to go to Prayer. Don't forget Mother's Day tomorrow as well as Pentecost!
So Happy Mother's Day all. My family is celebrating Lord's Day tonight as my gift. Lord's Day is a special grace for Christians to welcome in the Lord's Day on the eve of as our olders brothers in the Faith, the Jews, did and still do on Friday nights. Its posted here. Catholics have many options for showing God they intend to keep Holy the Sabath. Some are here.

Peace, Mary

PS Some confessions: No I haven't said the whole novena every day as much as I wanted to do it. I did however find God showing me the grace of the times of done so in the past. I was able to talk to a dear old friend. She told me she'd never done a novena but not only remembered me telling her about this one, but got her pastor to say it with a special, extra daily Mass for the Nine days! I do hope it becomes a true outpouring of the Gifts of the Spirit in their Parish!

Also I went to a Jack and Jill last night. Had so much fun! But- I forgot what time it was. I don't know about you, but our family goes nuts when a DJ plays "We are family, I got all my sisters and me!" We HAD to call my sister in Jersey. It was a little late to call someone pregnant with her tenth child--- sorry Amy but we just couldn't sing it without you!
By the time we hung up and tried calling my brother-Father-Uncle-Jimmy they were playing "Man, I feel like a woman!" Again. Sorry. I'm not used to keg beer.

Day 7 of Novena Thursday May 8

Click on Title to go to prayer.

Bible Study will be here today. I hope I can catch up to the ladies!

Today I remembered why I homeschool.

It was sunny, tommorrow won't be, and I already have resigned myself that certain books won't be finished. So I made eveyone grab a jacket, 2 books and a pencil and head for the van. We drove off to Mt Tom reservation. Covered a couple things at a picnic table, followed the trail around the lake past the beaver dams and through the mud, explored the creek and discussed all the things you don't think of unless you're out in the woods.
"is this the kind of creek Laura Ingalls had?"
"Can we fish next time?"
" Is that poison ivy?"
"Look kids trillium!"

Homeschooling is about educating the whole person and today we all felt rejuvinated. We'll probably go back next week and see if any toads and frogs are out. What are you doing special?

Calling All from Teen Encounter and Yahweh

A note from Gabrielle:
When I heard it was Father Henry Dorsch’s 40th Anniversary this month I went down to Springfield and arranged a Congratulatory Ad from everyone who's ever done Teen Encounter or Yahweh. The Observer is giving its best price and had a great picture of him in New York. If you would like to contribute to the ad, even just $5, contact Gabby.

(actually email me and I'll get you her address)

Please forward! Teen and Yahweh people have moved all over, many have now done Cursillo or Marriage encounter

Pray for High school seniors, figuring out that they have so many to say goodby to, getting ready for prom, graduation, loans, moving away, etc....

Day 3 of Novena Sunday May 4

Click on title to go to Prayer.

Today is our May Crowning and our parish is having a big pancake breakfast. Updated to show you Darth, my nephew, who thoroughly enjoyed wearing a costume to the First Communion party, (who wouldn't!) and snuck it in his backpack and put it on at church Sunday for the May crowning. Mary looked very pleased at this loving little boy I'm sure.

PS I hear his mom will be blogging soon. You won't want to miss his adventures. I'll keep you tuned.

Day 2 of Novena Saturday May 3

Click on Title to go to prayer.

God Bless you on your First Communion Day Marie! Same to cousin Mary and all my students.

Updated to include pictures:

These are before Mass.

First Reading with our Dir. of Faith Formation.
My Class!
With Fr. Galipeau.

Mass was confusing because I'm not goo at organizing. I'm not bad at teaching but I'm better at class or singing than keeping things organized.
Anyway later I'll add the funny pictures.
