Seriously-- it isn't a family event without them.
These are better but take practice. Your first batch will be gooey or fall apart. That's part of the process. These are much more like candy than cookies. Last year I tried using sunflower seeds instead of nuts so I could serve them around those with nut allergens with great success.
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1 cup Butter (NOT MARGERINE)
2/3 cup Brown Sugar
Combine in a saucepan bringing just to a boil stirring constantly. Remove from heat.
Preheat oven to 325 and grease 2 cookie sheets with Pam.
Stir in 1 Cup Flour and 1 Cup finely chopped Walnuts or shelled sunflower seeds. Mix well.
Spoon just 1 teaspoonful at a time 4 inches apart onto well greased cookie sheet and bake 8-10 minutes. You want them to stop being goopy but not reach the hard candy stage. Remove from tray about 1 minute after it comes out of oven. Leave flat to look like lace or snowflakes. Drape over a wooden spoon handle and roll to create a cylander. This shape is nice with one end dipped in chocolate. Or, drape over a small ramekin or custard cup to create a bowl.
